Lorena and I were tasked with having to revisit our old catalogs in preparation for our meeting with the photographer. Talk about a trip down memory lane! Some of these Lorena had already forgotten we had done. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come since 2007!

BARBAPAPA!

If you were a child of the 70′s, you would no doubt know Barbapapa and his many colorful friends. We were introduced to this character a few years back when Lorena brought back a giant box of her childhood goods all the way from Argentina. You can’t imagine how excited we were to root through this box of vintage toys and books!

Originally written in French in the 1970s by Annette Tison and Talus Taylor, the Barbapapa (literally “cotton candy” in French) series has been translated into over 30 languages and published all over the world!

While our library holds so many of these colorful stories, it felt only fitting to start with the first in the series, simply titled “Barbapapa”.

While Barbapapa’s story is simple (trying to fit into a town when he’s so different from others), the illustrations are so delightful to look at. Future books from the Barbapapa series feature more zany characters and LOTS of bright colors, you can almost see how much this series helped influenced Lorena and her work.

Our Safari Jumble Wooden Puzzle + Play is probably the product I’m proud of the most. What started out as a pencil sketch almost two to three years ago from Lorena has finally come to life in this beautiful FSC-certified wooden puzzle that doubles as an animal play set. Each piece is hand-cut and sanded with fine laser-etched details.

Of course one may worry about the difficulty of putting together this magnificent puzzle but after having worked on production of this piece for half a year, I can easily slot them together in seconds. But kids and adults should not be afraid. We’ve included laser-etched outlines of each animal on the inside of the tray to give you hints on what goes where!

We designed our new Alphabet Art cards to be, what we think, just the right size! These large sized cards are small enough to hold comfortably in hands of all sizes for alphabet learning but big enough to look great on the wall as decor.

I see them perfect as baby shower gifts. Use the cards at first to decorate the nursery. Spell out a baby’s name or use the whole alphabet. When baby’s old enough to recognize shapes and letters, use them as flash cards! They’re sure to last a long while.

We’re excited to release these two new growth charts that are extremely affordable! Both of these designs go for $18 msrp (quite a steal!). These charts are super sturdy, think thick puzzle board material, and easily folds up into 3 pieces to allow for quick heirloom storage!

Both the tree and the giraffe chart are made of recycled materials printed with vegetable inks and feature 20+ stickers with room for written notes.

“You are my baby” is something I have told my daughter again and again since her birth, and was the inspiration for these fun books.

Each board book features animals with their babies in an additional “mini book” nestled inside. “Turn the pages to match the baby animals to their parents and learn some early concepts along the way.”

You Are My Baby: Safari features classic Petit Collage animals: lion, monkey, elephant, giraffe, and crocodile, while You Are My Baby: Farm has a few new designs; a Petit Collage take on a favorite toddler theme. Our friends at Chronicle Books did a FANTASTIC job bringing these books to life. We couldn’t be happier to have these Petit Collage books released!

It’s only the second month in to 2013 and we’ve already set a new record for ourselves, having exhibited at over SEVEN different trade shows in just these two months! We only just finished showing at NYIGF with our own booth, which was a huge success. Our last show for this Spring 2013 season will be at the San Francisco International Gift Fair in mid Feb (see below for details).

I have been dying to show off our complete Spring 2013 collection but some things are still in production and not yet available in our shop but don’t worry, they’re coming soon! It’s been so long since I’ve been able to sit down and put together a Lorena’s Picks for our blog. But when you run a small business like me, it’s hard to find the time; too many things to do and meetings to go to! Now that our Spring 2013 collection is coming together, our once hectic schedule is calming down. Look forward to more Lorena’s Picks over the weeks!

This Lorena’s Picks is inspired by our brand new Petit Collage USA map Jumbo board. Not only is it designed in the U.S. (ahem, in California), but it is printed directly on FSC-certified birch grown in the U.S. as well. Researching the different states and icons was a lot of fun, especially since I am from Argentina and not 100% familiar with everything here. It was as if I did my own little virtual “road trip” across the country! And thinking of road trips, you can’t possibly have one with the kids without the accessories shown above (minus the wall art, or course).
