Play Sets
Pop out the pieces, fold the tabs, build the scene, and let the stories begin. Cardboard play sets, magnetic dress-up sets, and imaginative play worlds - all made from recycled materials and designed to spark the kind of play that doesn't need instructions or batteries.
Play Set Formats We Make
"Play set" covers a few different formats in this collection, and they each offer a different kind of play:
- Pop-out-and-build cardboard sets (ages 3+): Punch out pre-cut cardboard pieces, fold along the tabs, and build a 3D scene - a treehouse, a castle, a space station, a farm. No glue or scissors needed. The finished scene becomes a play world for the included character figures.
- Magnetic dress-up sets (ages 3+): Two wooden character figures with magnetic clothing and accessories. Storage boxes double as play-and-display scenes. Over 80-200 outfit combinations depending on the set.
- Magnetic play scenes (ages 3+): Themed backgrounds with punch-out magnetic pieces to arrange freely. Open-ended creative play with no fixed outcome.
Who These Are For
Play sets sit squarely in the imaginative play category. If your child likes making up stories, assigning roles, and narrating what happens next, these are the formats that feed that instinct. The characters and settings provide a starting point, but your child decides what happens from there.
For kids in the Age: 3-5 Years range, this is peak imaginative play territory. The cardboard pop-out sets are especially appealing at this age because the building step is part of the fun - your child creates the world before playing in it.
Open-Ended vs. Structured Play
Play sets don't have rules, scores, or endpoints. That's what makes them different from puzzles and games, and it's also what makes them valuable. Open-ended play builds narrative skills, creativity, social role-playing, and independent thinking.
If your child enjoys the magnetic formats here, our Magnetic Toys & Games collection has the full range including travel-sized sets that work well in the car. For structured play that complements the open-ended formats, our Puzzles & Games collection covers board games, card games, and puzzles.
Play Sets for Travel
Magnetic dress-up sets and magnetic play scenes travel well because the pieces stick to the board and don't scatter. The storage boxes have magnetic or clasp closures that keep everything contained in a backpack or carry-on.
Pop-out cardboard sets are better suited for home play since the 3D built scenes are less portable. But the building step itself is a great activity for a rainy afternoon or a school holiday.
Play Sets as Gifts
These make strong gifts because they're visually impressive, encourage creative play, and don't overlap with what most kids already own. Magnetic dress-up sets are the most popular gift format in this collection - the wooden figures, magnetic pieces, and play scene box feel substantial and special.
For a bigger gift, pair a play set with a matching sticker set or coloring book in the same theme. Our Family Games collection also includes some of the same magnetic formats if you want to see them alongside game options.
Materials
Pop-out cardboard sets use recycled cardboard printed with vegetable inks. Magnetic pieces use recycled cardboard with magnetic backing. Wooden figures and stands use FSC-certified wood with water-based paints. Storage boxes and tins are designed for long-term reuse. Packaging is plastic-free.
