Both are safe for this age range, but they serve different purposes. Soft toys (organic cotton squeakers, chime balls, fabric activity toys) are lightweight, machine-surface-washable, and safe for unsupervised play in a crib or car seat. Wooden toys (rattles, push toys, stackers) are heavier, more tactile, and build grip strength and coordination - but they're better suited for supervised floor play.
A mix of both gives your baby variety without needing to overthink it. One or two soft toys for on-the-go and sleep time, one or two wooden toys for active floor play.
Board books and felt books both work from birth. Felt books have soft textured pages your baby can grab and mouth. Board books have thick cardboard pages that hold up to chewing and bending.
